Wii U General Discussion

I enjoyed Super Paper Mario the most. Don't kill me for saying that. I'm just not fond of turn-based RPGs, even if they have interesting mechanics. I can whether through the Paper Mario games, and the Mario & Luigi ones, but still...

Thanks it's definitely now on my to play list! I'm in the somewhat lonely position of having loved Super Paper Mario and Sticker Star so curious to see what TTYD is like.

Very different, in some ways. Fans of the series aren't always as positive about the latter two - I've only played a bit of SPM(felt refreshing in its difference though) played most of Sticker Star though(again the stickers were something different, but I got on with it mostly). You'll be used to the battle system of sorts from that, one thing nice about Mario RPGs is whilst they're a turn based system they have the bonus real time/interactive elements, and TTYD is no different. I'll be very interested in hearing your thoughts if/when you get round to it, seeing as you're going in the opposite direction to most.

My only issue with Mario RPGs are that they need time - hence I haven't finished most of them! Guess a positive for TTYD is that I actually managed to finish it. Too much content isn't all that much a negative really though :p

Following on from @Ronnie's mention about IGN 125 list, I'm loving the F-Zero GX one today!

And I never knew you could spin attack to get around hairpins like that!!

Here's a video of F-Zero GX played with Oculus Rift. The guy who played it said it was the greatest VR experience he's ever had.

GIVE IT TO ME NINTENDOOOOOOO.

I can barely handle the awesomeness of F-Zero GX on a normal display, playing it like that would probably kill me. :D

Still... what a way to go. :hehe:

Minecraft will never happen now. For those that don't know, Microsoft bought Mojang today for $2.5 billion.

I actually think it would be an incredibly smart move from Microsoft to make a Wii U version. The Wii U doesn't compete as much with them as the PS4, and if Microsoft really want Minecraft to continue as a massive multi-platform game, it will assure gamers that they won't cut support of other versions.

But would Nintendo allow Microsoft to release the game on the Wii U?

Why Not?

MS released viva pinata on the DS.

Possibly Minecraft 3ds then... but on a Nintendo home console? imo, not unless microsoft pull out of home consoles altogether.

I think the plan (for now) is that Minecraft will be a Microsoft product, not an Xbox product, and treated separately. If that's the case, then it would be no stranger than Sony making a device (suitable for gaming) that runs Microsoft software.

In semi related news...

http://venturebeat.com/2014/09/10/unity-technologies-weighs-its-options-including-a-possible-sale-of-the-company-for-2b/

Unity are considering selling themselves...

This could be... problematic for Nintendo if Unity get bought out by someone like Microsoft, considering that at least 70% of the upcoming eShop games on the Wii U are running on that engine...

Not like there's much competition to be worried about if they release on WiiU anyway...;)

(it would be kinda cool if they did release on Ninty systems though, spesh WiiU. I've still yet to ever play Minecraft so maybe I would then!)

Surely there'd be all sorts of agreements already in place to stop that becoming a major issue?

Depends on whether or not old agreements like that would still apply under a change in ownership. It might require a contract renewal...

That's how EA managed to screw Nintendo out of getting Fifa games on Wii U. Until recently, EA were contractually obliged by their licenser (Fifa) to develop football games for all platforms - which is why they continued to make games for the Wii up until the very end. But a couple of years ago, their contract had to be renewed and the contractual agreement conveniently changed just enough for them to only have to develop games for "relevant" platforms...

... Just in time for them to be able to screw Nintendo out of any future Fifa games...

I hope they don't get bought by a company to just make them exclusive. Their cross-platform approach is a boon for the industry and a step away from that would be a huge jump backwards.

I don't think a release of Minecraft on the Wii U is out of the question.

See my post in the Minecraft thread to find out why.

Guess them pathetic Wii U software sales had nothing do with it then.

You don't seem to get it... EA were previously under contractual obligation to release Fifa games for ALL consoles, regardless of sales. It was a condition of them holding the Fifa license.

It was only recently that they renewed the license and the licensing terms were changed. That's the point I was making.

The same thing could happen with Unity (and Nintendo's license with Unity) if they were to be bought out by someone like Microsoft...

I get your point perfectly clear. Yes EA changed the contract terms but you accused them of screwing over Nintendo regarding FIFA which is not true.

Wii U is not a relevant platform due to bad Hardware and software sales.

Konami's decision not to release pro evo on Wii U even with no competition should tell you that the Wii U has not got the relevant userbase that will buy football or sports titles in general.
