No PC don't die on me!

Recommended Posts

So my PCs been acting funny.

Funny like, every now and then (3 in total so far) it will freeze for 10 seconds (and any audio playing will just continue on that one note) and then carry on as if it didn't do anything wrong.

Funny like, last night when switching off it stayed stuck on the shut down splash screen until I had to pull the plug.

Funny like a woman with a head shaped like a bag of potatoes.

What could be wrong with my beautifully ugly PC?

Anyyyyy one now.

:)

----------

Windows 7 64bit Professional

Intel 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz

4 Gig of Ramaram

Nividia 8800GT

All updates installed

Clean scan from AVG pro just yesterday.

And now randomly iTunes won't open.

*restarts*

And also (not restarted yet) my Seagate Manager won't backup...

It's just stuck on the "Backing up files..." menu and the text for file and folder is just flashing.

Lots of different things are going wrong at once and I'm very worried.

Ok and now I can't even manually go to my external hard drive and create a new folder.

I can't even paste into an existing folder, it just stays blank as if I didn't press the button.

Can you hear anything from your PC during those 10 second freezes? From the hardware I mean, not music etc.. It could be your hard drive.

I don't hear anything from my PC when it's freezing.

I don't think.

But next time I will quickly turn off my speakers.

I installed CCleaner and it took out loooooads of errors.

It's fine, for now... but it was before, too.

My PC also hung on the shut down screen again when restarting.

As far as I'm aware it's any audio file that is being played in iTunes, but I don't think iTunes is what is causing it... I get these freezes sometimes without it open.

I have two HDD, one is... er...

*counts on fingers*

2 and half years old, the other just around 6 months.

So far, since using CCleaner, everything has been normal...

No 10 second freezes, or the 2 second freezes I was getting every 5 minutes while using Max...

I've been doing work for a good few hours now...

If it shuts down fine then I think it's now ok...

And then I have to give Moogles a BJ.

Only half looking forward to that.

EDIT!

Agh! It just froze again!

10 second thing, switched off the speaker and heard no noise from my case.

My PC switched off ok last night...

I just tried playing the same music file after it froze and it didn't do it... so I don't think it's iTunes causing it.

Ok it froze 3 times, very close together... within a couple of minutes.

I alt-tabbed during the freeze and when it un-froze it changes programs... so it's getting input.

And it just did it again while typing that sentence... and when it was frozen the words I typed appeared after it un-froze.

And it just did it while typing that sentence!

AGH!

*has a break down*

If yer hdd is dying its not necessarily a good idea running all these cleaning tools, because they make the hard disk work harder... you could see where that would go. (to it failing, and you probably not having a backup?)

Has it started since you put the new one in? Have you tried disconnecting the new one and see how it behaves then?

Everything has been running completely fine up until a few days ago.

I think I know what it may have been though...

I saw this morning a new driver was out for my graphics card, yet the last one was only only 2 days ago.

I think that it was the graphics card driver causing the problems...

Since updating it again I've not had any problems...

Also, when it fucked up last time Windows started up in recovery mode and did some magic...

I'll keep you homies updated.
