Rumour: Mario Kart Wii In Europe This Year

Posted by Dean Jones - Jul 8th 2007 18:24

Sources say that the Wii version of Mario Kart - which is said to be revealed at E3 - will be out this year in Europe...

One of our trusted sources has given us some news about the Wii version of Mario Kart.

The game will be shown at this year's E3, which is something that everything expects anyway. What's more is that it will be release this year in Europe. Specific details on the game are still unknown - just the planned release date and the fact that it exists is known - but we will find all that out next week anyway.

Mario Kart for the Wii will be a "replacement" for Super Smash Bros. Brawl in Europe, which will sadly miss Europe this year, and it will be out early 2008 instead. However, this also means that the US will not see Mario Kart until early 2008, and they will be getting Smash Bros. Brawl in 2007. This means that Nintendo fans in both Europe and the US will have something to moan about (they'll have something to be glad about, too....but there will probably be more moaning).

Also note that at the beginning of June Patrick Nagel, Deputy Marketing Manager for Nintendo Germany, stated that Europe will see Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Kart in 2007. We have reason to believe that he really was speaking the truth then.

As we have already said, we trust this source, but have put this up as rumour rather than news because we have no official way to back it up. You'll just have to wait and see.

"stated that Europe will see Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Kart in 2007"

Is there a mistake on the above sentence?

I would rather have Smash Bros. but either way I'd be happy. As long as Mario Kart Wii is online, and I have reason to believe it is, then it'll be good fun. Hopefully, though, if it is announced that we get it this year instead of Smash Bros. and that it is online, they'll have better servers in place for it seeing as the european servers crashed on the first weekend of Mario Strikers being released. Too many people.

I agree with RawkingRawlings on this one. I'd rather have Brawl than Mario Kart. I'm not a big fan of racing games myself, but I suppose Mario Kart is the least irritating of the racing franchises (In my opinion). If it's all true, bring on MP3. If not, give us Brawl, damn it!!!

"Is there a mistake on the above sentence?"

Nope. Everyone just seemed to dismiss it as a mistake when he said it in an interview.

If true, this would be a fantastic surprise as I wasn't expecting MarioKart for a while! I'm hoping for first glimpses of 1080, Wave Race and F-Zero too (if any of them are coming.. and I hope to goodness they are!)

Yes, I'm greedy :)

I doubt we'll see Mario Kart this year. There is no news about this game at all, not even a screenshot. And what about Japan, Nintendo can't release two major games within 6 months time.

I also prefer Mario Kart over Smash Bros. Mario Kart Wii must have at least 36 courses and 8 battle arenas. Mario Kart DS is massive, I really hope the Wii game to be even better.

Oh, and proper go-carts this time Nintendo, not barrels with wheels!

About my Japan comment above, I mean that Nintendo can't release two SIMILAR major games within 6 months. Both games are about multiplayer mayhem as we all know and they offer similar experiences.

(typing on Wii, so I'll keep it short)

Assuming it's true:
Releived about Metroid. Rather have Smash than Kart. After Mario Kart 64, Double Dash and then MKDS, I dont see the series expanding anymore.

It looks like my Melee-filled Xmas 03 will not be getting a sequel in 07 :(

It would be great to see MK this year. Anyone who thought we'd see a PAL brawl in '07 is nuts.

MK is another top notch title. it will be a great time passer to fill in the wait for brawl.

Looking soooooo forward to MK (just pray it has noraml controls and not DK Jet like controls!!!), shame about SBM but nevermind.

I mean Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart this year and maybe Metroid Prime 3 also! Lets hope this Chrimbo belongs to the Wii!!

I'm hoping the new MK will be online since MKDS was, because if it is its gone straight to the top of my most-wanted list. I'm still holding out for a glimse of a new F-Zero though...

Will be interesteing to see what new futures they will bring to the game, and how they will make the wii-motes interact with the game! I think that this game is getting a little old, in my opinion, but they know people will buy it so ofcourse they will make one for the WII too! I do hope they will bring some bright new futures to this game and keep the game a good old classic one.

This sounds a little fishy to me! If Nintendo of Europe have time to translate Mario kart into all the European Languages then why not Brawl????? We usually get games last due to translation issues!! What do you all think to my comment!!!!

WHAT?! No Brawl 'til 2008?! Instead we get frickin' MARIO KART?! Compared to Brawl, I don't give a damn about Mario Kart! If this turns out to be true, I'm gonna be real pissed! On second thought, I'm already pissed that it's even a possibility!

*grumble*

Hmm well this is still rumour even if it is from one of our trusted sources, If Mario Kart Wii is coming out this year then all I can say is that it had batter be finished.

And by finished I mean an equal number of characters , karts and tracks to the DS incarnation, a superior experience to Double Dash, support for all control schemes (ala Smash Bros Brawl) and most importantly it has to be...

Online! if it's rushed out this year without online play then we may be looking at another Double Dash or at best, the DS version but offline in comparison.

It may not be the be all and end all IMO but online play would certainly extend the life of the game tenfold, lets just hope Nintendo doesn't screw it up.

As for Smash Bros Brawl? another delay, well who cares? so we have to wait a few more months, it will only be made better in that time and you know it will be awesome when it's finally released and if we have Mario Kart and possibly Metroid to play until then (not forgetting Zelda : Phantom Hourglass on the DS) it seems kinda trivial.

@ Nintendo-Master2

The reason no one else dies is because they are using a hacked version of the game that allows them to be invincible, get one hit kills, have unlimited ammo, etc. I've stopped playing it online for that reason that everyone is cheating.

Why is everyone so annoyed? It was so obvious Smash Bros wasn't coming out over here till 2008, so all this news is saying is that we get Mario Kart first! I'm pleased.

"it will only be made better in that time"

Even if it's been released in America as the rumour says?
S.C.G Says:

I was referring to the time between now and the supposed U.S release, in any case this is still marked as rumour and it's not exactly the most shocking piece of news, Nintendo original said that we would see Smash Bros, Mario and Metroid within a few months of the release of the Wii and we all knew that wasn't gonna happen.

Anyways, if it's released in the U.S first they will have time to iron out any online issues before it reaches Europe so it's not all bad, plus if Mario Kart is coming out before and it's both online and decent then there really isn't much to complain about IMO.

Surely then it should say TBA? Anyway If we do get it in 2007 I will be amazed so 2008 is most likely.
