News: Camelot Want To Make Golden Sun 3

"We think we have to make another one." N-Europe agrees.

The two-part Game Boy Advance role-playing epic is not dead yet, as developers Camelot have re-affirmed their commitment to the Golden Sun series. Interviewed by Game Informer, Camelot's founders - brothers Hiroyuki and Shugo Takahashi - have spoken their mind on the status of the series, last seen back in 2003. Their response:

Hiroyuki Takahashi: "First of all, I love that game and I love the world of Golden Sun. We think we have to make another one. We have to do it! Not just that we have to do it, but we want to do it. Nintendo has asked us to please make it. But at the same time we haven’t gotten around to making it. We’re not really sure why. (laughs)"

Shugo Takahashi: "As Camelot, we think of ourselves as being a company that makes RPGs. In an RPG you role-play as another character. In the sports games, you’re role playing as yourself. I want to let the fans know that in the center of our way of thinking the games that we’re making now are close to RPGs. The looks and the concepts might be totally different but the essence of the game contains the RPG. One of the reasons that we haven’t made Golden Sun is because there are so many fans of the game and we don’t want to do something half-assed. We want to give it the time it deserves."

After all this faffing around making golf titles, we really hope that Camelot get down to making the Golden Sun title the series' fans have been waiting so patiently for.

Best part in that interview is how they want to connect the past games with DS and then Wii. 16 PC FTW!

Nice to know that there seems to be the intent to do it by both parties (Camelot and Nintendo), but at the same time it's slightly disappointing how it sounds like it's not already being made.

I'm a HUGE fan of Golden Sun. The first game was incredible. Once I finished it, I felt sad... I wanted more! You know that feeling right?
Then, The Lost Age came out. Another incredible game. I used the cable to transfer the items and djinns to unlock the second game's full potential...
After seeing the ending, I just knew that they had to do a third one. Let us hope they take their time doing it.
With the DS's potential and Camelot's skill, it's bound to be great! And if they ever make a 4th installment *cough*fortheWii*cough*... One can dream...

I'm a massive Golden Sun fan too. Played and loved both GBA games - the second one again had the "transfer data" option to pass on your completed save to a third title.

Which I'm sure means the data could be passed to a DS game via the GBA slot. And from there.. onto a Golden Sun Wii game? I can dream..

So many GS fans...hehe.
I fell in love with the first game. Just adored it to pieces...
When I finished it, I thought something about it that I rarely feel with any RPG.."That was truly awesome"...ONLY Final Fantasy VII and Breath of Fire II gave me that.

Golden sun 2? PHENOMENAL game, almost as good as the first.

News on a third? I'm more than happy. I'm ecstatic, and as the others have said...4 always comes after 3... :D

Excuse me but I need to ask this one, are they on crack? If they are not, their current medication has already expired. Check the labels people (and get us GS3)

Golden Sun games were some of (if not) the best games on the GBA, both massive long games, great characters, great gameplay, beautiful and large world to explore, lots of side quests, lovely artwork and brilliant story.

I would jump for joy if they announce another one... but which system would be best? DS or Wii? The control input for both could potentially offer some unique control systems, with any luck we might get a game on both, fingers crossed

Golden Sun was a brilliant game with a very clever take on the RPG formula. Golden Sun 2 was really nothing special. After playing the original, the second game was just too tired in feel to be any good. It felt like the developers were obliged to make another game and hadn't put the effort in.

I really hope they'd release the GBA games on one DS card with this game for extra price or completely in separate package. I lost my first one and I never bothered to buy it again after we got the DS.

I loved the first one and I'm not a big RPG fan. Never did play the second game though.

Din you have to play it!! its a must! Beaten both at least 10 times!! I played the 1st one continuously until the second one came out. I was a bit disappointed at first but then towards the middle of the game i got really psyched!! The GS series are of the types of games you will wanna replay over and over!!

I would give practically anything to get a Golden Sun 3. I mean...why aren't they making it?! Do they not know how much they can rake in so easily if they were to make a Golden Sun 3 (not to mention a probable Golden Sun 4 for the Wii...). Their income and stocks would rise faster than a nuclear rocket through space!

A Golden Sun on the DS might mean new gameplay mechanics, updated graphics, CUT-SCENES (animated or 3D would be sweet), bigger world, ETC... Camelot...make this game happen. For all of good and justice MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

A Final Fantasy 7 all time most successful RPG killer (albeit extremely overrated) is always welcome on a Nintendo console. DO IT CAMELOT!

"A Final Fantasy 7 all time most successful RPG killer"

ehm... i don't think that even Square can top that one. The story is timeless (and of course having a much greater depth than the GS games) the characters are fantastically portrayed, the locales are diversified enough (ok you can top that one) and the materia system still holds today. This game was a lot more than the sum of its parts though and very few RPGs have managed to enter the league FFVII (FFVI and Chrono are two of them however)

"(albeit extremely overrated)"

I hope you have at least played through at least half of the game in order to make such a claim, otherwise your argument is boundless.

I've played and beaten the game in its entirety. Overrated written all over it. In fact I am going to far as to say this is one of the most ovverated games of all time, and there would be many people out there that would share the same viewpoint for reasons along these lines:

Terrible graphics. Clouds muscular arm primary example;

Music and sound are also of sub par quality. Aeri's theme recycled, similar to that of Luigis Mansion, but while not being as repetitive, still annoying;

Gameplays nothing to rave about. Literally no strategy needed during battles. Badly forced incorporated mini games (e.g. Barrel mini game) and the stories a mess.

Oversold, overrated, like GTA, except GTA isn't necessarily overrated but sold WAY more than it deserved to...

Unfortunately, I'm really-really sad of the 2nd Golden Sun released, I only have a GBpack of this so when I played this I really got along to the story but until the END, that you have to transfer your first Golden Sun save in the first place, and all of their items so by the end b'coz you really gonna use it, all their psynergy like lift, and the other. So when you play it and you didn't transferred the items, your gonna be stuck in the Magma Rock which you have to use the Lift, and your not going further anymore you can't enter Prox the Ice area in the north..

So I can't do anything more further so I stopped, and now I cant find the first golden sun pack in some stores, but i don't want to order in the net b'coz of those scumbags..

Is there any exceptions??
Can you find any Lift stones?
I really want to finish it off..
