News: Defend Your Castle Headed To WiiWare

XGen's WiiWare game has been confirmed by NGamer!

You may remember that we ran a story back in January about XGen Studios' plans to bring one of their popular Flash games to WiiWare. The possibilities were endless, but it appears that they have chosen the game which offers the perfect mix between addictive pick-up-and-play action and mindless bloody violence: Defend Your Castle.

Revealed in the new April issue of NGamer Magazine, XGen have given their originally plain and simple Flash game a bit of a makeover. The graphics now have more style, colour and life to them, as if they were drawn by a three year-old hyped up on sugar with unlimited supplies of Crayola.

The Wii Remote's D-Pad can also be used to select a method of attack. In addition to flinging stick-thin invaders towards the heavens and witnessing the bloody crash as their torso melts into the ground, you can now convert attackers into castle citizens, drop bombs on the hordes of evil invaders and use an eraser to 'rub away' the onslaught.

Defend Your Castle will be released on WiiWare in 'early 2008' according to XGen Studios for the bargain price of 500 Wii Points. Stay tuned to N-Europe for the latest on WiiWare.

Wow. It's taken less time than I anticipated for the Wii to completely hit rock bottom. Charging money for otherwise free flash games(which btw run better on a PC). After Mario Kart and Smash Bros (which i still view as enhanced GC titles, bring it on fanboys) the Wii is going to have to pull out a pretty amazing trick from its hat if it wants to please seasoned gamers (no, not you fanboys ;)

So in the months to come, RIP wii

Absolutely. Just look how quickly the recent XBLA release of N+ killed the 360.

I believe the 360 has a few more hit titles than the wii.. Understatement of the year :P

I believe the 360 had a year's head start and a mere graphical improvement rather than a total control scheme overall. And how do you classify a 'hit title'?

i think you can classify it how you like, the 360's still had more, and will have more in 2008

what does the headstart matter? wii is already past or at its prime. the 360 has been at its prime a long time and hasnt descended yet. The Wii should in reality have been released 2-3 years ago.

So what is it that puts you off the many great games that you've probably missed out on? Lack of HD?

I think it's a fight you're never going to win, Nathan. Some people who go out of their way to try and be controversial rarely backtrack later on - even when evidence that contridicts their own case is brought forward.

I'm a nintendo fan at heart ever since my game boy in 89 or i guess prob 90. An n64, a few more game boys, the ds, cube and wii... and really only got the 360 on november.

I'm simply saying that leaving out HD and an HDD was largely a cop-out on Nintendo's behalf. Graphics isnt everything but it will add to the experience just like any element in a game. It may or may not be a vital part of a game.

Please, try and pint out some games I've "missed out on". I really haven't played any game that NEEDED the Wii-mote. In all honesty I'd prefer Mario Galaxy without it. The only real benefit is the relaxed positions my arms are in when I play with the nunchuck style. The "waggle" is merely a gimmick. Excite Truck, ok that game DID actually make the wiimote work. So sure there are a few exceptions.

Mario Galaxy, Wii Sports, Metroid Prime (I havent played it, but i can see its a great game if you're into that kinda genre), and Zelda are pretty much the only GREAT games that have been released for the Wii. I'll add the godfather in there since i hadnt played any prior iteration of the game and they DID pull off wii-controls. Still thats in effect 3-4 games, of which many people may only like 1-2 of.

Nintendo = Failing company prior to late 2006. Needed quick reactive fix to brand crisis. Released Wii with extreme sacrifices to gaming system fundamentals in a bid to attract Third Party support that was boycotting Nintendo by the minute and spitting on the very notion of support an "inferior" brand. Has worked to some degree, but this whole generation, really is the experimentation/rebuilding phase after the devastation of the preceeding decade... Next generation, we'll see something that is true value for money...

Funny how both the PS3 and 360 give you a ton of value considering how much replay value they give you.
