Rumour: Metroid Prime Trilogy Re-Released?

Posted by Tom Phillips - Apr 28th 2008 01:59

Is the complete Metroid Prime trilogy getting a re-release on the Wii?

It's rumour time again folks, this time concerning a certain armour-suited Nintendo character, and her three Metroid Prime adventures. The first two were of course released on the GameCube, though rumour now has it that all three - the first two with newly added Wii controls - will be seeing release on the Wii together in a special Metroid Prime Trilogy pack.

There certainly seems a trend for Wii ports with added waggle of late, but is it really happening? We'll confirm or deny when we can. In the meantime, would you buy it? Let us know via our comments section below...

Man, I'd be a sucker and get this for sure. Metroid Prime 1 and 2 with Wii controls? Do want!

While I'm more excited about Retro's new project. MP 1 and 2 with MP3's controls would be a day one buy. Specially if it came in a cool box with posters and a making of :P

I have never been a big fan of the first-person perspective, and Super Metroid really wasn't my type of game, so I shied away from Prime (although I did try Hunters). But I would be a fool not to buy a trilogy pack, if the price is right.

Upgrade the graphics, add in a FULL widescreen mode and some nice extras and we have a deal. :P

No online multiplayer for the love of god.

metroid is all about being on your own...

Hm, I haven't played the first two, so it might be worth it, but some updating would be welcome aswell. Adding waggle to a GC game and call it a Wii game is pretty cheap and doesn't do the Wii justice.

I've played them all, so I'd happily buy them again if there was some updating. Wouldn't be so sure if it was just Wii Controls though.

Now you can see why those dudes walked out. Didn't want to get roped into old regurgitated projects.

Pretty sure this isn't gonna happen...

but if it does, it's an instant-buy.

@ Ramar: I doubt Retro would be working on something like this... I bet Nintendo would leave it to a smaller company.

It would make sense tbh. Give Prime 1 and 2 those sales it deserved.

There are alot of people who haven't played the prime series and with Wii's user base now larger than the Gamecubes back in the day it just makes it available to the masses.

I would get it. I've yet to play MP3 and fancy replaying the first two at some point, so this would be the perfect way to go.

Id definetly buy a trilogy pack, played through Prime, never finished echos and havent got around to playing Corruption so yeah, that would be a great deal!

oooh this would be cool indeed. I hope they do something similar with the GTA series. Re-release GTA III, VC and SA on 360/PS3 ^^

Whoa, I'd consider buying it they would be simple ports with Metroid Prime 3 controls. If they'd be widescreen, 60 fps, DPLII and 480p enabled, it'd DEFINITLY get them! :D That'd be the coolest thing ever!

we just need the same quality as mp 3 and I think everyone who has ever played mp 1 or 2 will buy this

@Tealovertoma; perhaps then they left as they weren't happy seeing their work being outsourced to someone else...

Oh I'd definitely buy that!
Not played the First Metroid Prime for a few years, only ever borrowed the second Metroid Prime, never finished it though as I got bored, and have still never bought the third Metroid Prime yet, so if all 3 were released Wii-ified that sounds good!

Nah. The Prime games was a one timer in my case. Once completed, never touched again...

not a bad idea really
i probably wouldn't buy it as i've completed them all 100% already ... but it'd be nice for everyone else. with the wii controls as well, that would make for some extra yummy gameplay.

wouldn't even say no to multiplayer, although that obviously won't happen. i know metroid is supposed to be all about isolation etc etc. but i had some great fun playing multi on Echoes ... i think it works well, you just have to take as something entirely separate.

Good idea. I can actually see this selling quite well, and the more people experience these awesome games, the better.

As fas as upgrading the games go, I would be heartbroken if true widescreen and 480p weren't added as standard to all the games, but that's as far I see Nintendo going with it - they'll want to make a quick profit on something like this. To be honest, the sheer beauty of the art design in the original makes it stand up as a looker even today.

Personally though, I'm in the same boat as Pesten. Have and finished all the Prime games, and they'll always be there if I ever want to play them again.

Nintendo have come out and denied this already. But if they did release such a box set, I'd definitely pick it up. I've played all of the Prime series (only one I haven't completed was the first one because my memory card corrupted. Thnx F-Zero) and I loved them all so this would be a must buy for me. Even though I probably wouldn't play Echoes or Corruption again.

I say, release MP1 and MP2 with Wii controls on a single disc, or at least in a single release. Preferably with some material bonuses, even if just a MP wiimote strap.

I'd play it =)

Please no.
I hated the control system for Metroid Prime 3 completely.
I'd buy it if they did it the other way round. Re-released Prime 3 that permits gamecube/controls that First Person games with guns controls. =]

And don't ruin the perfections of the first 2 games. Just update them for the HD-ness. =D

Argh! I hate when people say samus is supposed to be alone! Look at prime 3! It would be nice for some online multiplayer as an option, yes?

I have all the prime games. 3 is the only one I finished xD I still haven't opened the second one from its packaging and played like 3 hours of the first one so....

I would buy it day one, I never got to play the first 2, and it's the reason why I haven't got the third yet, so it's an instant buy for me :)
