News: Wii MotionPlus Dated

But not with Wii Sports Resort...

Shown back in E3 2008 and originally expected to hit in Spring 2009 bundled with Wii Sports Resort, many have been anticipating the release of the peripheral which will offer true 1:1 controls. But lately it's been all quiet... apart from the fact that we know Ubisoft's Red Steel 2, EA's Grand Slam Tennis, Tiger Woods 2010 and Sega's Virtua Tennis will use the add-on. Now MotionPlus has a release date, but not with a Nintendo title...

Wii MotionPlus is scheduled to hit Europe on July 2nd, bundled with Grand Slam Tennis and will retail for €59.99. Alternatively, Grand Slam Tennis will retail for €49.99 if you don't want to pick up the accessory just yet.

Are you looking forward to some realistic tennis this summer? Or sword fighting and throwing a frisbee for your virtual pet? Let us know below.

Nintendo letting EA lead their new peripheral?
Wii Sports Resort must be launching around that time too.. right?

No, I reckon Nintendo have basically given EA the chance to premiere the accessory.

Wii Sports Resort was supposed to launch Spring, but it's been AWOL from all release lists covering the first half of 2009. Let's say it's been delayed significantly - launching WM+ like this is in the best interests for all parties.

Nintendo's really letting 3rd parties take the lead, it's a huge turn of events from last gen.

Great move by Nintendo!

Can we assume that it'll be released on its own as well on that date? Seems good for consumers - instead of getting a semi-party-game-thing, we might actually get a full game!

I'm still getting Wii Sports Resort anyway, people may bash on the first one, but it's really fun, specially in multiplayer. Plus, I want two motion+

Excellent news, so it's gonna be roughly priced at £10 - £15? that sounds about right tbh, I'll get it as a bundle if it works out cheaper.

Hmm heres a thought... do you think that maybe some third parties may choose to release Wii-ware around the same time that will support the peripheral?

It makes sence.
Wii Sports 2 will sell like crazy, so it's best to give 3rd parties a chance.

Brilliant news. I'd much prefer to pay an extra €10 to get MotionPlus.

Way to go Nintendo!

Yeah, Grand Slam Tennis can take a hike. I want Wii Sports Resort.

Although, a lot of people have the impression that the Wii is all about tennis, så offering the device with EA's game is probably a good move for everyone.
