Shigeru Miyamoto has been holding a private press conference at E3 behind closed doors to demonstrate some new titles and answer questions. Tidbits inside...

While absent from the main Nintendo press conference earlier on, Miyamoto has held a more private gathering behind closed doors this evening in LA. New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Galaxy and Zelda: Spirit Tracks were all showcased. He also commented on the next Zelda title for the Wii, full details of which can be found here!

Zelda: Spirit Tracks

  • Features a four-player multiplayer mode!
  • Has lots of train travel in it! Yay, we guess!
  • Link controls Shadows to aid him in fighting and puzzle-solving

Wii Sports Resort

  • Designed to satisfy those feeling that the original Wii Sports wasn't accurate enough
  • Features achievements in the form of collectible stamps
  • It includes a sword fighting game against other Miis on your Wii console, whom you must try and defeat 10 of with only limited health
  • The game's setting (Wuhu Island) featured in Wii Fit, will feature in Wii Fit Plus, and may yet appear in future titles - possibly a hotel murder mystery game set on the island (Miyamoto's joking now).

Super Mario Galaxy 2

  • Very, very deep in production but will be held until 2010 due to New Super Mario Bros. Wii launching this year
  • Lots of ideas that couldn't fit into the original
  • More than 90-95% new features, not just copied from original game

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

  • It has been a long-time dream of Miyamoto's to make such a multiplayer Mario game
  • Features around 80 levels
  • Unfortunately no online multiplayer, as the Wii is fully occupied just by running the rest of the game!
  • An ice level features Mario in a penguin suit, able to throw snowballs which freeze enemies

Awesome! The only thing missing was Pikmin 3. Considering he talked about Zelda.

Sure is a shame that there's no SMB.Wii online multiplayer but it's not the end of the world. Getting 4 mates round to traverse through 80 levels is gonna be pretty fantastic!
