Media: New Super Mario Bros. Wii UK Boxart & Tin!

Posted by Nathan Whincup - Nov 12th 2009 14:27

Our review copy of the highly anticipated New Super Mario Bros. Wii has arrived, and we've got some snaps of the UK boxart and limited edition tin.

Mario and Luigi are returning to their 2D platforming roots, as Nintendo prepare for the release of New Super Mario Bros. Wii in Europe next Friday.

We received our review copy of Mario's rather smashing new adventure this morning, courtesy of our friends at Nintendo UK. We've taken a few snaps of the UK box, complete with the limited edition coin-box tin (currently £34.99 on GAME.co.uk, bargain hunters!), which can be seen below.

Click an image to force-feed it a Mega Mushroom, and head over to our New Super Mario Bros. Wii picture gallery to check out many more boxart snaps and in-game screenshots.

If you're itching to know more about the great moustachioed one's latest foray into the Mushroom Kingdom, check out Tom's Eurogamer Expo 2009 preview. New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be out in Europe on Friday 20th November.

Yup, everything you see in the gallery is everything that you get in the tin. It actually just acts as a money tin, hence that little slot at the top.

What is the flap/coin slot at the top made of? From the photo it looks like cheap paper or card, and also looks like it has a big crease or fold on it :(

Also, I'm happy, because a sequel to Hotel Dusk on DS has been announced!!!!

It's all metal and shiny! Nathan sat on it though and dented the top.. he's had one too many mega mushrooms himself.. :)
All in all though it is rather tasty, and acts as a handy sleeve for the game to stop you staring at the redness in wonder for too long..

Is there any significance to the box being red? Is the regular edition in a white box? I remember that Mario Kart Double Dash came in a red box too for some reason (unless you got it as a bundle with the GameCube, then you got a normal box).

Those of you in the UK are very lucky! I-m only getting a NSMBW T-shirt with my game since I pre-ordered it lol, I hope American boxes are Red as well.

Doesn't look like my pre-order comes with anything :( except it was $10 off. On the bright side, it seems to have shipped yesterday so.. I should get it soon..

The tin doubles as a bank? That's adorable!

The game's box is naturally red like Mario Kart DD's that Eraser mentioned. I've preordered the tin version and will be picking it up most likely the Saturday morning. That'll give me some more time to fully finish Super Mario Galaxy :)

Can you guys definitely 100% confirm that the Tin edition has the red case inside?

As NoE just sent me this in an email;

Unfortunately, the limited edition Tin case for New Super Mario Bros. Wii appears to be supplied with a white game box  with slightly different artwork - the red case is only supplied for the standard version.

Kind regards,

I'm hoping the guy just looked on the GAME website and saw their picture of the tin next to a crappy white placeholder box.

Korn, all I can say is that the copy Nintendo sent us was a red case one inside the tin. It'd be a real shame if others got the tin had a regular white case :\ Can't think Ninty would do that, surely?
The red case also has the regular "Wii" logo on the front and spine all holographic-shiny. It's very smart looking.
