News: Next-Gen Pokemon Game Coming This Year

Satoru Iwata announces the next generation of the Pokemon series to hit DS later this year...

After the 2006 launch of Diamond & Pearl proved that the Pokemon franchise is a strong as ever, it's little surprise to learn that Nintendo have under development the next main iteration for the series. What is surprising, however, is that it seems the next generation of Pokemon will be the first to release on the same console as its predecessor.

At Nintendo's official Q3 report, president Satoru Iwata confirmed the existence of a new Pokemon title for Nintendo DS, and that it "should become one of the most anticipated Nintendo DS titles for this year". Iwata-san went on to confirm that the next game will be set in a brand new area, and will feature new critters to capture. He also stated that "As a totally new version, it will contain various unprecedented experiences".

What would you like to see from the next Pokemon game? Drop a comment below...

1. 2010 is going to be an extremely good year for Nintendo.
2. Nintendo is really pushing DS sales with new games.
3. Hope Nintendo won't mess it up with so many games in development.

So many years have passed since Red/Blue/Yellow, but I'm still a sucker for a new Pokémon game. I'm really excited, but we probably won't see it in Europe till mid-2011.

To be fair my favourite is still the old ones but the Diamond and Pearl followed by its slightly more epic Platinum were actually pretty top games that you cant really knock.
Then they made the same sorta game but a remake of the Gold/Silver which when its finally released will make a very happy old fan of the series.
Completly new ideas will be what makes this game yet obviously keep the old familiar style.

my guess [and wish] is a 3d pokemon game like final fantasy IV on the ds, where the battle is similar to battle revolution... I really hope that is the case, with main player customization [however limited]

the thing is, if you are calling gameboy and gameboy colour different generations then so are ds and dsi, and i'd guess there will be some dsi functionality in the new pokemon

Well, I think that given the success both the DSi and DSi XL have had so far, they will do the same they did with the first two gen of Pokemon...

the first two games will be for DS, with DSi-enhanced features (like Gold and Silver, that where GBC-enhanced lol), with the third version of the 5th gen games being DSI-only (like Crystal was GBC-only)

Deffo agree with a pokemon game similiar to
Final Fantasy IV.

It would be amazing to travel around Vridian forest for example and you can find new ways to discover the pokemon.

However [and I cant believe i'm saying this] I..A.G.R.E.E with Sol a new pokemon game for Wii would be ideal but Pokemon snap 2 though is a definate NO, NO, NO!
