All Virtual Boy Games #17: Virtual Lab

A intestine-themed puzzle game. Blocks fall from the top and the objective is simple – form an intestine which is fully enclosed. As a concept, it has potential as it’s similar to how cities work in the board game Carcassonne (and a lot of fun), however, Virtual Lab has zero atmosphere to it. There’s almost no visual identity and no depth, with music you barely notice.
Even worse is while difficulty ramps up quickly, it never gets interesting. Your objective is to clear each level, although as you can try again and the blocks already in your play area are random, it’s more about being lucky with your starting blocks than anything else. The game also feels very unfinished (likely as it was rushed out when the developers heard that Nintendo were planning to discontinue the Virtual Boy), with button inputs being duplicated (so sometimes blocks will spin twice), only having clockwise rotation and the telling you passwords to let you continue, but having nowhere to enter passwords.

Remake or remaster?
The concept could be tried again, but perhaps with a better theme.
