While in other Virtual Boy game reviews I’ve highlighted the fact that the game looks so much nicer than they do in screenshots. For Waterworld, however, the complete mess you see in screenshots looks even worse when everything is moving. The ocean having no texture also makes the depth effects completely fail, with the title screen popping out being the only significant 3D. The one saving grace is that being unable to see anything doesn’t impact playing the game: you just shoot at everything. If it doesn’t vanish, you can drive over it for bonus points.

Waterworld is a very simple arcade style game where you just get slightly more enemies each round. They’re mainly people on jet skis, but occasionally you’ll just about make out a speedboat or shark. The game is just a case of slowly turning around and blasting everything. There’s no depth, no content, you can’t see anything and it’s horrible to play.
