Feature: Advance Weekly #5

THIS WEEK'S NEWS

Not a huge amount to report on this week. A new first-person RPG has been announced. Called Dungeons and Dragons: Eye of the Beholder to be published by Ubi Soft and developed by pronto games, will be a throwback to old dungeon-exploring first person RPG's like Shining in the Darkness. It is expected this November. New shots of Zapper, a semi-clone of Frogger from Blitz games, reveal that the game may occasionally stray from it's avoid-em-up focus, with some screens showing some sort of side on tree-platforming section and what looks to be a mine-cart riding section. It's looking good and is released this December.

Doom 2, despite having been knocking around on websites preview pages for a while, has only just been officially announced. Published by Activision of course, and developed by Torus Games (Developers of Duke Nukem Advance) it will be a straight port of the popular PC game, and it's due this autumn. Should be good. And also, a game that has apparently been known of for a while but one that I only just heard of, is Kirby (It has yet to be given an official title). The popular pink puffball is looking suitably bright and colourful here and should make up for his dull N64 outing. It is a totally original adventure and will include a multiplayer mode. No release date has been set, but expect it before the year is out.

What else has been announced? Well how about *Cough* Little League Baseball 2002 from *Cough* NewKidCo ('famous' for their handheld Tom and Jerry and Winnie the Pooh titles), this is due for release in America in about a month, but don't expect to see it over here. Oh well. More interesting announcements come in the from of a game based on the Cartoon Network show Justice League from Midway and a GBA version of the popular arcade blaster, Metal Slug. Tentatively titled Metal Slug Survival mission it of course won't be coming from deceased game giants SNK, but from their Japanese license holders, Playmore. No details whatsoever have been given, but it's nice to know it's on the way.

There are no new releases on the GBA this week (What?!), so let's go straight to...
