Feature: C-E Weekly Digest

It's Friday, and you know what that means. We look at this previous week.

First Crystal glimpse

Well, it has been 5 months since it was revealed a Final Fantasy game would be made for GameCube and we are only getting the first footage of it now. Oh, and for anybody that doubts whether or not the footage is actually from FF, the Japanese writing says "Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles" and also, "Game Designers Studio" (the company behind the game). What is surprising is that it doesn't seem like a normal FF game.

Sweet. Who would've thought, eh?

It looks kinda like Zelda (no bad thing at all), the footage showed the main character fighting some enemies in real-time , not the turn-based style other FF games have used. If given the choice between a turn-based or ealtime FF game, I know I'd pick real-time. Games are made to be played, not watched. Having to select each move at a time and then watch your character doing it (especially if it's one of those OTT element attacks) slows the pace down too much.

Of course we only have a few seconds of footage to go on, so no doubt I could be wrong, but so far things seem to be going well. We should be seeing the game sometime during next year, probably around the Summer or Winter.

An honorable date
We finally got a date for Medal Of Honor: Frontline this week. We won't have to wait long for it after the Americans get it. In fact, we won't have to wait at all, the game is getting released on the same day on both sides of the Atlantic, November 18. This is of course great news, the shooter brilliantly recreates the way in gritty, realistic detail. But it means that this Christmas we'll have no fewer than six FPS' (not counting the almighty Metroid), all worth your money. Sheesh, we're getting swamped.

Die Hard jitters
Earlier this week there were worries that ace-looking shooter Die Hard Vendetta would be delayed into next year, but our contact there was able to confirm that we didn't need to worry, the game was still on for its November release. Good news.

The sky's the limit
I was thrilled to find out that the GC Skies of Arcadia was not just being ported over as first thought, that a new character and new plotlines will be added, as well as a graphical update. It seems that they are going to do the excellent epic of a game justice. Expect this blockbuster next year.
