Gamecube really is the console for Sonic fans. We all knew Sonic Team had taken a shining to Gamecube, but to have every Sonic game on one console just shows it. I have to admit though, when I found out we weren't getting a new Sonic Adventure as initially thought, I was dissapointed. I was hoping for the series to get back on track soon after the dissapointing SA 2 on Gamecube.
The classic Sonic games were far better, despite being a Nintendo diehard, I have to admit to being a fan of them. Just flying a those speeds, doing loop-the-loops while collecting those rings. It may not have been Mario, but it was great fun. So I was pleasantly surprised to learn that those classic games will all be heading to Gamecube in a single package. I really hope they leave them untouched.
But as for Sonic Adventure 1, they better upgrade it graphically and ad some extras. Don't get me wrong, the game is great (far better than its sequel) but to simply give us a port of a game that was released at the Dreamcasts launch would be ludacrious. I don't want another Crazy Taxi, I want a Resident Evil. But overall, Segas announcement has me excited, it's great to have such a great 3rd-party on board like this. Xbox and PS2 ain't touching Sonic.
Sunshine, lollipops and...
The release of the first proper mario game for six years is only 2 weeks away. So it's no surprise to see Nintendos marketing in full swing. This is the end of low Japan sales. From friday two weeks, right through till the end of the year, Gamecube is going to sell great in Japan. We've Mario, then Resident Evil Zero and then Zelda, with Metroid, Starfox and others dotted in between. And who better to get the party started than the figure of videogaming, the pudgy plumber himself?
Release Muddles
I read Nintendo of Swedens release list with interest. Apparently, Metroid, Kameo, Donkey Kong Racing, Mario Golf and Tennis and others are getting released on 31/12/2003. Hmmmmm. They could at least write TBA or something, we've got fools believing their anticipated games won't arrive till the end of next year for Gods sake. Apart from this, there weren't a lot of surprises, everything seems to be on course.
A decent ECTS?
After a disspointing show last year, it's great to see big names like Capcom and Konami attending this years show. Don't expect huge bombshells though, they'll most likely be just having existing games on show for (the first time ever) general public. To quote Harper Lees "To Kill A Mockingbird", "It's a baby step, but it's something."
Apart from this, there has been little else to talk about this week. Don't know why.
