Feature: C-E Weekly Digest

C-E Weekly Digest is back! Every Friday I'll be looking at the previous weeks news, condensing it all into one manageable article, giving my views on it all. And don't worry, this time it's here to stay. Enjoy!

Lost in Spaceworld
Obviously the biggest news of the week was the cancelation of Spaceworld. Although E3 is far bigger, Spaceworld has always held a special place in Nintendo fans' hearts. Not only does it have a really cool name (E3, ECTS?), but the absence of any rivals means that for a short time, us Nintendo fans can soak up all the news, screens and videos of nothing but the biggest Nintendo games. But not this year.

When the rumors of Spaceworlds cancelation first arrised, I have to admit I dismissed them. I thought there was no way Nintendo would cancel the 2nd most important event of the year, and the biggest as far as the Japanese market is concerned.

I thought Spaceworld would be exactly the thing to get the slow Japanese sales going again. I mean, what would get interest in Gamecube going again than stunning playable versions of Zelda, Resident Evil Zero and other big hitters like Metroid, Starfox and Eternal Darkness. Everyone knows the Japanese are highly-anticipating Zelda and RE0, two titles that could alone push weekly Gamecube sales from around 7,000 to around 35,000, easy. As would having the new GBA Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, Metroid on show, for the eager punters to have a go on.

But it isn't like there will be nothing in its place, and this is where a posistive note comes through. In Spaceworlds place there will be several smaller shows, placed mostly in Japan probably. So it isn't like Zelda, RE0 and the big GBA games won't be in Japan to captivate the Japanese folk. I just thought one huge, mind-blowing show would have made more of an impact than several small shows.

But I am convinced that at least one of these smaller shows will be in Europe, especially considering Nintendos increasingly pro-Europe attitude over the past few months. I was glad to hear that they Nintendo will be attending the annual Tokyo Show in Paris this year, I doubt we'll hear any world-shattering announcements, but it is still nice to have it. More should come.

The Darkness is Here (finally)
After 4 YEARS, 4 years of anticipation, of delays, of taking in every, single, bit on information on the ultimate mature game, Eternal Darkness has been released. Well, I thought I'd never see the day. And it looks like it all has been worth it, considering the rave reviews and the tons of impressions around the net. Of course, I never doubted it would be worth it, too bad we have to wait until October for it :(

Go on Capcom!
I was delighted to see that Capcom are selling RE2, RE3 and Capcom vs SNK 2 EO at a lower price, because they are ports of older games. Any other developer would've charged full price for crap ports ***cough***Smashing Drive***cough***, lets hope this genorousity spreads to other developers! I mean, games are expensive enough, especially considering the dire quality of most of them. Capcom are quickly becoming my favourite 3rd-party.
