Feature: Mag Review - CUBE #10

CUBE hits double figures, but is the issue worth the extra 30p? Will tells all.

As a dedicated CUBE buyer and reader I strolled to my local newsagents to see to my surprise that this issue of CUBE was in the shops. Usually I have to wait till a day or so later before I get a chance to buy it, but hey, I wasn't complaining.

As soon as I saw the cover I knew this was going to be a great issue, purely for the fact that I love the Resident Evil series. Some huge feature waits inside? The last time we hard a card cover we got a special Pal release feature full of reviews. So what does await you in issue 10 of CUBE?

Looking at the cover you can easily tell that you get a review of Resident Evil, a feature on the illusive developers Rare, and the massive review on the game we have all been waiting forMario Sunshine. Also featuring articles on Metroid Prime, Zelda, James Bond: Nightfire and Colin McRae 3. All this for 30 pence extra, that's right. We all new it was a matter of time before a increase in price came, but not a single page extra.

As ever we have the "Up Front" section covering some of the great up coming games. This issue looking at Zelda, Metroid, Die Hard and Colin McRae, and as always followed by the News section, as always, which offers news on some new games and a little insight into Nintendo's, and off course a lot of scheduled release dates. There is also a competition to win a limited edition Resident Evil watch (worth 150, which I don't believe) and copies of the game.

As aforementioned there is a nice and interesting feature on Rare, cleverly entitled "Rare Where?" which covers Rare's history of games, as well as some funny parts about "infiltrating" the Rare base, true Conker's Bad Fur Day, style. Also includes CUBE's opinion on all possible directions that Rare may take. A good read

The preview section is full as always, giving you all the latest screens of all the upcoming games. This issue including Timesplitters 2, (a extremely anticipated game for me and I'm sure many more of you), Tony Hawk 4, Super Monkey Ball 2,(the ultimate party game), Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and many more for you too drool over, true Homer Simpson style.

We have also been blessed with an 8-page In Depth of Turok Evolution. This gives us a glimpse of how the game is progressing for the GameCube. And to help you make up your mind on if this game is for you as we wont get a review until nearly a month after the game is released on September the 6th, (happy birthday mum).

Now what we have all been waiting for? The reviews. Yes, we have the follow up to last issue Super Mario Sunshine In Depth. An 8-page review of this Star game, which we knew it was going to be anyway. But how much of a star game is it? That's up to you to find out! The Pal versions of Resident Evil and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy where G:DL got an even worse Pal review than its American copy. Do we really need a review of Pal and American games separate? Maybe this is due to the summer drought of game and lack of games to review. Also up for is Beach Spiker's and Aggressive inline, which was surprisingly a Star game and came out of the blue and looks amazing. I'll let you judge for yourself.

Finally CUBE Network is there with a few small changes and game help on Capcom vs. SNK and a few football tactics for Red Card, Virtua Striker, and the Star game of the issue, Aggressive Inline.
Overall this is a good issue, let down by printing a fair amount off past screens, and some repeat reviews, but we can blame that on the summer drought. A few surprises and a great Rare feature. At 30 pence extra and no more pages is another down point, but definitely worth getting if you are a die hard CUBE fan, and also if just a one off.

Score 7/10
