Feature: Staff Roundtable #31

10 games from Konami? Will we really be getting them? And do we even want them? Our staff give their two cents

What Konami games do you think we'll be getting? And what ones do you want?

Matthew: ISS3 is a definite of which we'll get - If Konami don't bring out the godfather of all Footy games out over here they'll be masses of sweaty teenagers rioting outside their headqurters. Even though ISS2 was a let-down, I'm still greatly looking forward to it, and hope that it will go back to it's roots.

Other than that, there are none that I'll demand on the release day, and most I'll end up pickking up for 15 after they've been out for a few months. Link: I hope Konami develops more Disney games! Sorry about the sarcasm, but that really made me mad. I was hoping that when Konami actually started developing for the GameCube they would develop some killer titles. I was (and still am) hoping for Metal Gear Solid and most of all CastleVania. The N64 version was quite good and I'm sure that Konami could easily bring it to the GameCube. Apart from that, though, I'm not too worried on whether or not Konami develops other games for the GameCube. It would be nice for sports fans if Konami could bring their great soccer series to the GameCube. In the end, though, I have never really relied on Konami for a lot of games, although, I was quite impressed with Hybrid Heaven. A sequel would be welcome.

Ben: I'm not sure that Konami will be bringing out many games for the Gamecube at all.

ISS3 should be coming, but it will have to be a marked improvement over ISS2. A Konami street basketball game doesn't interest me, but it seems that we'll get one anyway.

I'm kind of interested in this Turtles game. No, I'm being serious! Konami have been responsible for some excellent Turtles games in the past, so it would be interesting to see what they could do.

I don't think we'll ever see Metal Gear Solid on the Gamecube. It's been rumoured for ages, but I just can't see it happenning. Not that I'd mind either way, it would be a Goemon game that would really got me excited. The SNES and N64 Goemon games were fantastic adventures, and I really loved their quirkiness. It would be so great on the Gamecube.

In all honesty though, I don't have a great deal of faith in Konami, and their attitude towards the 'Cube.

Freddy: Personally I don't really care whether or not Konami bring their acclaimed titles to the gamecube. In fact, I couldn't care less. Metal Gear Solid is pretty bad if you ask me (well, the second one was certainly, but the first was alright), and I'm not the biggest fan of sports games....The only two games that I would consider buying if they came out would be a Goeman game and a Castlevania game.

Ash: Well having not really giving much thought to the games (which I generally dont, I wait until they are near to release) I only have thought about the turtles game. If they can do what they did with Turtles In Time on the SNES, I'll be happy and buy it. The lineup of games look good though and I'm sure it will please many people.

Tim: Konami. Right. Well, I will probably get ISS 3. For the rest there are not any games that appeal to me. The release list Konami published last week was until march and included only a few Disney games, ISS 3 and the turtle game for the GameCube. Not really a list to get excited about. I am actually waiting for the list which gives us the dates from march until the end of 2003. I think Konami will have some interesting games for us lined up then. So ISS 3 it is, for now.

Jan: Phew, tough to say. Well, Turtles was already confirmed, some more Disney suckage seems likely... I hope the cube gets MGS2:Substance, Contra, and Silent Hill and also these mysterious Titles Eclipse and Goemon like rumored already in C-E's news. But i doubt we will get these. Disney seems more likely to me. I'm gonna get a PS2 next month if the 3rd parties continue to treat cube-owners this way...

Mark: Hmm. As the others have mentioned, ISS3 is a dead-cert really- it will appeal to such a wide demographic. More Disney Sports games are, unfortunately, likely also. I just don't see Konami bringing out the heavy artillery for the GC- I mean, there hasn't even been mention of the likes of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for the GC, even thouh its coming to the Xbox. What I would like to see? Well, Pro Evo Soccer 2 would always be nice, and if Nintendo could persuade them to develop a GC-exclusive Castlevania, I'd be happy. But I don't think we should expect much from Konami- its clear they aren't sold on the GameCube- yet.
