Feature: Staff Roundtable #45

The E3 fun begins in a mere two days. Two days! Two days until the annual orgy of new games being unveiled and new media being gurged. Our staff look forward to it.
E3. What do you want to see and what do you think you will see?
Freddy: I want to see surprises, and I think I will see them.
There are many already announced titles that I want to see more of, such as Unity, F-Zero GX, FF: CC, Mario 128 and 'Game Zero'. I'm hoping for another Zelda game as well. That would complete E3, to be honest.
er-no: For me. It would have to be a new Mario game. Or even a new Smash Bros Game.
Thats a franchise that Nintendo can honestly trust in selling millions of copies. And with the market in the unsettled state its in. Nintendo need more than Zelda and Metroid to dig them a nice hole to sit in. They need Sonic and Mario in a game. :-D
Kevin: E3 was on the top of my must go to events this year but as with all things it requires money and that didnt appear so what do I expect this year...
I can't wait to see F-Zero and Mario Kart, I'd expect to mario 128, and hopefully the next Zelda game in the franchise maybe one set around the time of the great war?
Maybe even a new Donkey Kong?
From the other major developers I would like to see The Sims from EA , Starfox from Namco, and Rogue Sqaudron 3 from Lucasarts.
There's loads of games I can't wait to see, so just bring on Tuesday !
Ben (Haver): One thing is for sure; E3 is set to be a corker of an event. Nintendo always pull out the stops when E3 comes around, and I'm sure they will repeat this trend.
I think a Mario announcement will take place at E3, whether it be Mario 128 or another game, I reckon the Italian plumber will be present. I'm looking forward to MGS: Twin Snakes footage and also more on Mario Kart Double Dash, Pikmin 2 and Rogue Squadron 3.
I'd love to see an announcement regarding a Mario or a Zelda, and the possibility of a PilotWings title makes me feel all tingly inside. I'd also love to see a Donkey Kong related game, perhaps DKR or an adventure title in the vein of DK64.
Blackbird: I expect major havoc. News, screenshots, factsheets... EVERY 5 minutes! On the other hand, E3 always gives you something to look forward to.
Ben (bjlangley): I'd like Nintendo to get to E3 without spilling the beans.
Last year all of the surprises were ruined when somebody got a sneaky look at the Nintendo's brochure, so it would be really cool if we got something we knew nothing about when Nintendo's pre-show press conference kicked off.
I'd like to see a significant improvement on what has been shown of Wario World so far too, whilst on the subject of last year.
This Pac-Man thing sounds interesting, but surely only worth having if you have 4 players all of the time, I'd like to know more about that.
Something on Animal Crossing 2 would be of interest, especially as that one should come to Europe.
I'm sure there will be a new Mario game, but I doubt we'll get anything on a new Zelda.
It will be interesting to see if Silicon Knights show more than just MGS, as I've last I heard they were working on more than just one title.
How about a new Kid Icarus game? That I'd like.
Dringo: I don't expect much from E3, a few journalists raving about the brilliance of Mario Kart, the nice new features of Pikmin and how F Zero GX could be game of the year. But what I'm intrigued to discover is how well Hal's Kirby's Air Ride plays, that looks highly promising.
Regarding surprises well there maybe some with titles such as Ground Zero, and with Mario 128 due in Japan at the end of a year I would be pleased to see a running demo of that. Nevertheless it is the oncoming presence of Nintendo's other big franchise, Donkey Kong, that we need to look out for....
And hope remains for Earthbound.
Tim: E3 2003 will be full of suprises! I do not think the titles announced by the developers will be the only onces displayed. A lot of new games will be thrown at us I expect. What I would like to see... well, that'd be a new Nintendo franchise!
I would love it if Nintendo announce some new unexpected titles. Thought Mario Kart will also feed my needs. I can't see enough of that game. Give us some more footage Nintendo!
Conor: First of all, I absolutely cannot wait until E3. From Tuesday to Friday, my schedule will be divided thus:
-School
-English Literature revision
-E3 work
I'm serious. I'm even going to have to shun Zelda for a few days just for the event. And sleep. And it's not like I actually need food, right? God, if this is what i'm like just sitting here inn ireland wjile it's all going on, I'll probably explode when I actually go there, leaving a few games journalists washing blood from their clothes.
Anyways, onto the actual question then. I want to see more of Mario Kart. More screens. More information. More everything. And I'm keepin an eye on how F-Zero, Final Fantasy and (of course) Viewtiful Joe do. Hopefully bucketloads on them will be on offer. I am really eager to see these 'Fear' and 'Game Zero' games. New franchises from Nintendo are always something to get excited about.
I also want Konami and Nintendo to show off MGS: Twin Snakes. Sold Snake on my Gamecube? Be still my beating heart. More third-party is one my 'Wanted' list too; not the generic crap a lot of them are doing, but big support from the big guns. Pledges from Sega would be well nice. So basically, I want more. And what better to round if of eith a good slice of Metroid Prime 2 pie?
What do I think we'll see? Probably more on the Mario games (Golf, Tennis, Kart) and F-Zero GC, Starfox Armada and a few new games from the big N are definite. And I'd bet my kidney on at least a trailer for Prime's sequel. Nintendo will also be eager to show off fruits of their many partnerships with Namco, Capcom, Sega, Konami, Square (god the list is getting reassuringly long, isn't it?) and their 2nd-parties.
Overall, the next week isn't the best time to go off on holiday. There'll be many sleepness nights, least of all from this buzzing journalist.
So then, when you'll be pouring yourself over your monitor until Friday, what are you looking forward to? And what will you eat your hat for if they don't show? Post your thoughts.
