Feature: Staff Roundtable #63

Every year, as the long nights set in, we get something to do when the light outside is fading. A lot of things to do, to be precise. We'll be racing in the future, kicking ass with Link, taking part in a comic book fight-a-thon and doing more than a little blasting. Yep, it's going to be great.
The hectic Winter season is approaching...which games will you be purchasing?
Lamsh: Aargh, that question is mean. It makes me think about all the games I probably won't be able afford. Here's what I would like to buy though:
Soul Calibur 2 (loved writing the review, am loving it daily on my brother's X-Box),
Viewtiful Joe (loved writing this review even more),
Simpsons Hit and Run (I have a weakness for games that remind me even vaguely of Carmageddon),
Worms 3D (should be a great party game),
F-Zero GX (faaaaaaaaast),
Billy Hatcher (how can you resist a guy in a chicken suit?),
Tony Hawk's Underground (more Tony Hawk for my Cube!),
Mario Kart Double Dash!! (after the new multiplayer announcements I want this one even more)
Oh but I know what to do, I'll just win the lottery! Then I can also buy Gladius, The Hobbit, LOTR: Return of the King, Harvest Moon, I-Ninja, Mario Party 5, Sonic Heroes and XIII!
Matt: I usually avoid the cascade of winter sports games that flood shops shelves this time every year, however I do plan on getting 1080 as well as SSX3. As far as winter games go, that's pretty much it.
I'll of course be buying the 'Mandatories', namely MarioKart, F-ZeroGX and Viewtiful Joe and Soul Calibur II which should last me until Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is released. Worms 3D is also on the buy list alongside Rogue Ops.
All looks good, I still have many games to play and complete still and will be picking up a copy of Eternal Darkness next week to see what everyone was raving about.
Don't buy this and we'll shoot you - no, we're not joking.
Ash: I'm a bit low on money at the moment and unless I get a job (im trying, I swear), I will only be getting F-Zero GX, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and F-Zero GX are a given really, big titles that a lot of people want. Buffy I chose because I'm a fan of the series and I really want to play this game.
Of course if I had more money I would get Star Wars: Rogue 3, SSX 3, Sonic Heroes and others.
James: Aaaah, so many games, so little cash...
I have already ordered Soul Calibur 2, Viewtiful Joe, and F-Zero from the GAME website, but I am also planning on getting Mario Kart, 1080, Worms 3D, and possibly Pikmin 2. If I can find a way to earn some cash, that is. Damn you Ninty!
Three cheers for originality.
Franklin: I'm working some extra hours so I can buy all I want without losing too much for my next holiday.
Soul Calibur 2, can't wait for this one; been dying for a decent fighter. Wrestlemania XIX, big WWE fan here, gotta have this after the dissappointment of the previous game this one should be loads better. Viewtiful Joe, it looks so cool like nothing seen before, I been in need of a real hard game and they say this is well hard gotta have it. F-Zero and Mario Kart do I really need to explain these hello? I think there's more though I can't remember now.
Pesten: Stop reminding me.. I'm broke!
Anyway, I'll probably rob a bank and use the cash to buy out everything I need to satisfy my gaming need. First I'll get Soul Calibur 2 (haven't even played it yet, I'm ashamed). After this I have a struggle in my mind. You see, there is just so damn many good titles trottling among this winter. I'll guess The Hobbit will be a surtain purchase (as I'm a HUGE Tolkien fan) and Rogue Squardon 3's looking superb. Ah, and Worms 3D will be a must have! (those games are really good drinking games)
I'll also try to afford Gladius, as it's looking cool as a bucket of ice..or something.
Tim: Tough question you ask there mate. I will definitly go for the PAL version of F-Zero GX, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Rogue Squadron 3, and Worms 3D. Though I am sure I will not be able to resist to get some more games hitting the shelves during winter. Fortunately, I don't have to get a PAL version of Viewtiful Joe as the Japanese version satisfies all my needs (get this game, its brilliant!). The same goes for Soul Calibur II. So that saves me some cash. I will surely not be able to resist True Crime: Streets of L.A., Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death, 1080 Avalanche, and Need for Speed Underground. Now I have just got to find a place where they give away money so I can actually buy all these games. This winter will be brilliant!
A happy halloween indeed!
Conor: The Christmas season is always great for me. And, of course, for anyone who has the slightest interest in videogames.
Thankfully I actually have a job this year, so can withstand a bigger blow to the wallet. Between now and Christmas I plan to get around half a dozen or more games; most on their release day hopefully. There are a group of games that I simply have to buy; even if the world ends in a blaze of scalding fire nothing will stop me getting Mario Kart:DD. Although I have concerns about whether it will be to previous installments as Sunshine and Wind Waker were to theirs, I still cannot pass up a new Mario Kart game. I loved Super Mario Kart. I loved Mario Kart 64. I am still playing Super Circuit. With new features and a promising multiplayer this is an essential purchase. Same for F-Zero GX; I adored the N64 version and am glad that this is one looks like a difficult nut to crack. Bring on the difficulty I say!
In my local snooker hall they used to have a Soul Calibur cabinet, and I soon became one with Kilik and his mighty stick. And so, naturally I'll be heading up to my games store once I get out of this school this friday. Halloween, too, is going to be great. Now that I've grown out of trick-or-treating I guess I'll have to make do with F-Zero GX and a certain old-skool, insane-looking, beautifuly-stylised scrolling fighter. Viewtiful... something?
As well as these there are a bunch of games that I'm taking an interest in. I am seriously considering ordering Animal Crossing from Australia; such innovation cannot be passed. Then there's XIII (big fan of it's visual style), Billy Hatcher and perhaps even a GBA game or two. Apparently Advance Wars 2 isn't bad.
Dan: That is a very hard question to answer as I am flat broke, and will be until Christmas so can I change the question?
What games will I get for Christmas? Well a part from the 'big' titles (Mario Kart, Soul Calibur 2, Viewtiful Joe, and F-Zero etc) There is one title that is a 100% must for me. That game is Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snake. I have got/had/played every Metal Gear. Even the one on my old PS2 (sorry!). So if anyone wants to get me that game, I won't say no!
So, what games will you lot be getting? You know, apart from Mario Kart.
