Game Details: Top Gear Overdrive
A racing game for the N64
Original N64europe review
Do you remeber the game "Top Gear Rally", and did you like it? If you did than you'll be happy to hear that the boys down at Kemco have made a sequel called "Top Gear Overdrive." Instead of fucosing on the more realistic based simulation style racing that Top Gear Rally had, now Kemco is focusing on a more arcade racing title........ This racing title from kemco is beyond real but is in its own category in realism. The photo realistic scenes within this game are like none found anywhere on any game.
The graphics them selves are the workings of kemco and their new 3-d engine which allows them to apply touched up photo realistic textures onto nearly exact replica's of some of your favorite carrs like "Ford GT Mustang," "Ferrari," and many more. Every detail down to the smoke emitted from the tires as they screech across the concrete while making a deadly hair pin turn. The city scapes and country sides that you drive in are also just as photo realistic and impressive. There are building with textures so real that it is near impossible to tell them apart from a real building. The cars themselves are great and truley have some time and detail put into them, there model make up has some of the largest polygon counts ever and to be running smoothly this is sure to be a winning title........and supposidly all this is running at a very favorible frame rate.
The sounds in Overdrive are very incredible, every little sound effect covering anything you see along the road is there. The sea, birds, passing cars, etc. The roar of the car's engine is phenominal and will have you just show off the purr of your "Kitten"....hehehehehe. And now with Overdrive Kemco is focusing on Mulitplayer action instead of single player simulation.
Which in point of facts brings up that you will have a few "Items" at your disposal. You have speed up items, oil slicks, and other small gadgets that keep the game interesting aside from its grizzling speed.
Overall the potential of this game is extermely high of being the racer of the year or something close to that. And if anything I would recommend at least renting this one......
