Original N64europe Review
Vigilante 8 is a new 70's disco game by Activision. It is supposed to take place in an alternate dimension. In the South West of America there is a massive oil drout causing people of that dimension to go crazy in a retro 70's carnage binge, resulting in destruction like we have known and grown to love. And what fun would it be if you didn't get the vibrant colorful retro cars? None! Thats why they give you the choice of being on either one of the two "gangs" I suppose you could call them. Each person has a car that fits their personality. The two gangs are the Vigilantes (hence the name...) and the Coyotes. The Coyotes are your residnt badguys. In the game you go through 13 levels based on different places in the American Southwest. Now this game is fully equipped when it comes to secrets, you can get different levels and different characters which come with there own custome car that fits there wild and crazy personalitys.
In the single player game, you chose a character on either one of the sides (Coyotes or Vigilantes). Each player has their own story line that gradually unfolds to you as you go on in the game.
It is the perfect multiplayer game. Think about it, you get to drive cool cars and blow the bejesus out of each other. Up to four players can play, and the graphics are sweet. The boys (or girls) at activision sure did give this game everything they could when it came to graphics and gameplay.
This game is compaible with the rumble pak as well as the controller pak. It uses passwords for saved games which is something rather unusual for games today. Vigilante 8 is also ompatible with the expansion pak, making the sweet graphics even sweeter.
The weapons used in this game are destructive to say the least. It is fully equiped with guns and lasers, but the cool part of this game is each player has there own special weapon, for example: Old Man Beeswax has a stinging swarm of bees.
Oh, and I thought I'd meantion the music which is perfect for this sort of game. You get to blow up your friends with an allnight disco marathon. Ohh, god its Saturday Night Fever all over again!!!
