2D Metroid revealed for 3DS

In a shock reveal on the Nintendo Treehouse stream, it seems that Metroid Prime 4 on Nintendo Switch won't be the only appearance of Samus in the near future!

Metroid: Samus Returns was just revealed for Nintendo 3DS and is a brand new side-scrolling 2D adventure.

This new title is a reimagining of Metroid 2 on the original Gameboy. Unlike previous 2D entries, this features a full range of motion for shooting, so you can aim in any direction, not just at an angle.

While the game is a 2D sidescroller, it will make great use of the 3D aspects found on Nintendo 3DS, with the levels showing a great sense of depth thanks to stereoscopic 3D. Check out the reveal trailer and newly announced amiibo below:

As you'll have gathered by now, any big Nintendo release also has to be joined by an amiibo or two, so Metroid: Samus Returns will launch with two amiibo, one of Samus and one of a (squishy) baby Metroid.
