It's the end of the working week, and we can think of no better introduction to the weekend than thirty minutes of fresh footage from Monolith Soft's Xenoblade Chronicles X.

In case you missed it, today saw the second Xenoblade X 'Direct' air in Japan. While the last one focused on the lush and expansive overworld, this one gave us an in-depth look at the game's battle mechanics.

On the face of it, the combat system looks similar to the game's predecessor - normal attacks can be performed with both close-quarters or ranged weapons, and there are also special moves called Arts.

However, your fellow party members will play a bigger part in effective battling this time around. That's because there is a system called Soul Voice, whereby your allies will suggest certain Arts to use at certain times. Using the system effectively will lead to all sorts of combos and bonuses.
