3DS redesign is unlikely as Miyamoto is satisfied with current hardware

Ever since the Slide Pad emerged last year, people have been speculating as to whether a new 3DS is on the cards and you can't blame them after the DS and its many forms. Shigeru Miyamoto is hoping to finally put these rumours to rest though and has discussed the 3DS with IGN.

Miyamoto denied reports that Nintendo are working on a revised 3DS but did claim that what they are thinking about right now will most likely be for a future handheld.

“I really feel like I’m satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it’s the best for this generation. What we’re thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld.”

Don't take this the wrong way though, the 3DS still has plenty of life left in it and Nintendo are nearly always thinking of their next product. This merely means that any improvements that could be made for the 3DS will most likely be kept for a future system.

Miyamoto was keen to point out that there are still many great things waiting for the 3DS and that they'd barely tapped the potential of the hardware or 3D gaming in general. When asked about possibly incorporating a second Slide Pad into a new 3DS, Miyamoto claimed that the built in gyroscope makes up for the lack of dual Slide Pad control.

What do you make of this news? Were you hoping for a new 3DS or are you quite happy with the system you have now?
