When the Wii U launched last year a lot of gamers cried out for a unified account across the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and now it is finally happening.

During today's Nintendo Direct, it has been confirmed that a forthcoming system update will allow gamers to connect their online accounts together and share their credit balance.

In addition to this, the system update will bring the popular Wii U application Miiverse to the Nintendo 3DS.

It appears that a lot of the same functionality exists, and communities for games will be added over time.

Expect more details about the update and what it will bring shortly, but for now get practising those Miiverse drawings!
