The just-finished Nintendo Direct broadcast has confirmed that a new, larger 3DS model will be hitting European shelves on July 28th.
The 3DS XL features screens that are 90% larger than the current model, but the console's total surface area is only 46% larger.
The 3DS XL also comes packed with an improved battery, with the increased expected battery life for both 3DS and DS software usage also divulged.
To keep costs down, the 3DS XL will not come bundled with its own AC adapter, but if you already own a DSi, DSi XL or 3DS, that adapter will be fully compatible. If not, Nintendo will be selling a 3DS XL adapter and charging cradle separately.
The 3DS XL will also come bundled with a larger SD card - the size now upped from 2GB to 4GB.
As per usual, we'll have to wait for European retailers to set the price of the system, but going from the American RRP ($200), we might expect the 3DS XL to be slightly more expensive than the 3DS is currently, but significantly cheaper than its original launch price.
The system will launch in Blue, Red, and Silver varieties.
