Alain Corre: "We believe in Nintendo"

You can't argue the fact that Ubisoft has been one of the biggest, if not the biggest third party supporter of the Wii U since it's launch last November. Despite the console's struggles thus far, and the imminent arrival of it's upcoming next-gen competitors, Ubisoft will continue supporting the Wii U. EMEA managing director Alain Corre had this to say in an interview with Polygon.
Alain Corre: "We believe in Nintendo. Nintendo is a company that has proven in the last 30 years that they are able to fascinate tens of millions of gamers. Nintendo is a great game creator; they are magic to a lot of gamers. And we've had a lot of great experiences with Nintendo in the past, such as the Wii and the Just Dance franchise. It has become one of the major franchises on the Nintendo system and is growing on Wii U. The other reason is, we're trying at Ubisoft, as a company, to be early on any new technology coming. We feel there are some interesting things we can create."
Ubisoft wants to be first at the table when new technology arrives, this was also the case with the Wii U. They provided gamers with a fresh new twist in the stale survival-horror genre with the release of the innovative ZombiU. Despite the risk of developing a game like ZombiU at the launch of a brand-new console, Ubisoft decided to go all-out and that benefited them in more ways than one.
Alain Corre: "We have learned some interesting [things about] gameplay thanks to the Wii U. With ZombiU last year, it was one of the first times we could explore asynchronous gameplay thanks to the second screen. When we look at that today, it's also thanks to that we've been able to create gameplay for games like Watch Dogs. This kind of technology is thanks to the learning we've done on the Wii U tablet. So it helped us also to be quicker and to have today some of the best offerings in terms of second screen gaming.
What we wish is that Nintendo can put more energy behind the Wii U, and find a solution to put more machines in the hands of the consumers. We feel that this machine can find its place, we just need more push from them to help find the market."
The big titles are starting to arrive on the Wii U. Pikmin 3 came last month, The Wonderful 101 is out today in Europe and a whole host of major 1st & 3rd party titles are set to arrive before 2013 comes to an end, one of which being Rayman Legends, and it seems that Ubisoft may have some more plans for that in the form of DLC.
Alain Corre: "That's something we are thinking of for Rayman Legends. There may be some extra things we can do for this game."
