Nintendo shot to an expectation-beating profit for the three months of April-June, with sales of amiibo the standout achievement for the company.
Analysts had widely expected a loss for the quarter, but strong sales of amiibo and Splatoon, combined with a weaker yen, earned Nintendo a net profit of over 8.2 billion yen (around $67 million) for the three months.
Lifetime sales of amiibo surpassed 14.7 million units worldwide, with an eye-watering 4.2 million of those shifted in the last quarter.
The breakout hit Splatoon also played its part. The online team shooter has now sold over 1.62 million copies.
The health of Nintendo's finances have come despite weak hardware sales. Wii U managed to sell just 470,000 units in the three months, pushing its life-to-date sales past the 10 million mark. 3DS continues its steady wind-down, selling just over a million units.
