Animal Crossing reclaims top spot in Japan, 3DS rises further

The hotly-anticipated pre-Christmas Japanese charts are out, and it's another happy holidays for Nintendo as Animal Crossing: New Leaf takes the number one spot.
The game has now surely well passed the two million mark, as Media Create only tracks physical cartridges sold; not downloads or download cards.
Not only that, there were also big week-on-week increases for Paper Mario, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. Nintendo's Wii U contingent in New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land also enjoyed a slight boost, albeit one that leaves them in somewhat middling chart positions.
Here is the full software chart for the week of December 17th to 23rd.

3DS somehow rose greatly on last week, blasting passed the 400k mark. It's no match for its peak during last Christmas, but it has arguably beaten expectations and now may pass 10 million units sold before the end of the year. Wii U presents something of a paradox, as it is the only system to drop on last week, with the post-launch 'settling' clearly outweighing any holiday boost, though it's difficult to know what stock levels are like on a nationwide scale. Without doubt though, the system has enjoyed a very solid launch - the key question will be whether it can keep up decent hardware sales going into the new year.
