ARMS sells 100,000 copies in first week in Japan

ARMS is off to a great start in Japan, selling 100,000 copies in its first 3 days on sale.

ARMS managed to shift 100,000 copies in its launch week in Japan which is a great start for the new IP.

To put that into perspective, the Switch has currently sold 1 million units in Japan so within the first 3 days, 10% of Switch owners got their hands on the new title. These are very impressive numbers for a new IP and a great attach rate but it's also an incredibly good start for a fighting game, something which could now be considered a somewhat niche genre.

Arms beat Tekken 7 in its first week sales and the ever-popular Street Fighter V, which managed to shift 41,000 in the same time-frame.

With such impressive initial numbers it will be very interesting to see how this fares in the coming weeks. Nintendo are certainly hoping to extend the life of ARMS and turn it into an 'evergreen' title similar to the likes of Mario Kart and Splatoon, which they are pushing with the promise of free DLC in the future.

Only time will tell if ARMS has legs
