Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor Yooka-Laylee launches Kickstarter

Just a month-and-a-half after the initial reveal of 'Project Ukelele', Playtonic Games has formally launched the Kickstarter campaign to bring the spiritial successor of  Banjo-Kazooie to Wii U.

The game's title was also revealed as Yooka-Laylee, named characteristically after the game's two main characters. The personnel at Playtonic is made up of the very core of the team that presided at Rare during their heyday of 3D platformer success on the N64. Musical geniuses David Wise and Grant Kirkhope are also onboard.

Yooka-Laylee is now confirmed for a release on PC and consoles - including Wii U - having smashed through its initial Kickstarter goal of £175,000 in well under an hour. The largest stretch goal - £1,000,000 - will guarantee a simultaneous release across all those platforms on day one. You can pledge, or just see how the Kickstarter is doing, here.

Our pals at Eurogamer also managed to get a comprehensive look at how the game's shaping up, so be sure to check it out.

Yooka-Laylee is planned for a release in October 2016.
