Warner Bros. has announced a pair of new Batman installments in the Arkham sub-series, both of which will release on Nintendo systems.
Batman: Arkham Origins will be released on Wii U, as well as PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and is developed by Warner Bros. Montreal, rather than original Arkham Asylum and Arkham City studio Rocksteady. However, Warner Bros. Montreal did do a solid job in porting Batman: Arkham City to Wii U for the console's launch.
Arkham Origins will be set before either of its predecessors, and will this time put players on the streets of Gotham City. The story sees eight assassins team up on Christmas Eve to take down Batman, who will encounter many famous characters for the first time. The only villain yet confirmed to be included is Deathstroke.
Here's a short video via Game Informer of the team's creative vision for the game.
Also announced, but with very little details divulged, was Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. A '2.5D-style' spin-off game, the game is heading to 3DS and Vita and will take place after Origins. It is apparently being developed by Armature Studios, who was famously formed years back by creative talent behind the original Metroid Prime. Given the studio's history, we can probably expect the game to go through mysterious development hell and never see the light of day.
