Breaking News: Nintendo Announce New Wii Console

Not got a Wii yet? Then this might be the perfect Christmas present for you...

Nintendo announced early this morning that a brand new Wii console is coming out in time for Christmas.

The console will be a streamlined version of the current white Wii, which has been altered to be placed lying down rather than standing up, just like the shots of the Wii U that we saw at E3. It will come in a bundle package with a Wii Remote Plus and nunchuk, not to mention two games as well: Wii Sports and Wii Party.

Nintendo has also announced that more Wii bundles will be revealed in the run-up to Christmas. As announced yesterday, Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess are joining the Nintendo Selects range, making the Wii a very tempting (and potentially cheap) option for those who don't own Wiis yet.

No official pictures of the new console have been released yet, but stick with N-Europe for updates as and when they happen.

What are your thoughts on the new Wii? Too little too late? Or could this be the kick needed to give the Wii a last holiday of decent sales? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!

Update

We have some new information and an image of the console courtesy of our former editor-in-chief Tom Phillips who is now over at Eurogamer. The new console will eliminate backwards GameCube compatibility in terms of hardware and software, meaning you won't be able to use GameCube controllers for games such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl. An image of the console can be found below, thanks to Eurogamer, and it seems that the design hasn't changed too much.
