Good old Activision. Not long since EA all but condemned the Wii U as a dead platform walking, Activision are actively bringing the new Call of Duty game to Wii U in the hope it will help the console and Nintendo.
Say what you like about the Call of Duty games, but the brand is arguably the biggest in gaming history, and around every November thousands of gamers camp out to be the first to play the latest in the series. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was a Wii U launch game, but it released some two weeks after the world wide launch that Xbox 360 and PS3 owners had. So this time, Wii U owners are getting it day one. And although initially there was some confusion as to whether Wii U was getting it all, in an interview with Joystiq Activision publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg is hoping the game can help Nintendo shift more consoles.
"The driving force behind us bringing Ghosts to the Wii U is the same as every other platform, it's just we want to do everything we can to make the first-party successful" Hirshberg said. "Obviously if they're successful, that's good for our business, that's been our strategy in the past...We generally try to be wherever our gamers want to play. So we thought if our content can help the Wii U and Nintendo gain some momentum, then we wanted to do that."
What a refreshingly positive attitude to the Wii U. Let us hope that sales figures back up Hirshberg's faith in the console and that this time next year we are writing a similar story about the next COD game being only a few months away from release on Wii U.
