Call of Duty: Ghosts not coming to Wii U?

And so the third party saga surrounding Wii U support continues. After last week seemingly confirming the existence of a Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Infinity Ward's Mark Rubin now seems as in the dark about the title heading to Nintendo's home console as we do.

Last week we reported him saying that a Wii U version was being handled with next-gen production and that Activision wanted to keep the title "mysterious" for now. However speaking with Games Industry International, Rubin has gone on to clarify that statement. When asked if COD was coming to Wii U he said:

"...You know that’s funny, because I don’t even know the answer to that. I swear to God, I don’t. I was trying to say in the interview [that] I really don’t know and I’m not supposed to talk about it. I’m not supposed to talk about the fact that I don’t know."

So there we have it. Mark Rubin is not supposed to be talking about the fact that he doesn't know anything about a game he doesn't know is in development or not and he doesn't know the answer. Simple really.

Activision supported the Wii U on launch with Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and developed titles for the Wii from their tent pole franchise, so one would assume a Wii U version was likely. However Activision CEO Robert Kotick has expressed disappointment with Wii U sales, and rival EA have seemingly stopped backing the console which is only 8 months old. Perhaps the "mysterious" quote attributed to Rubin was more Activision waiting to see what Nintendo would announce at E3 before deciding to back the console with the big budget series. Or, indeed, it may well be Activision waiting to make an announcement closer to the November launch of the game.

While this story continues to twist and turn, we will keep you up to date here at N-Europe all the way up the November 5th release of the game.
