Cel-Shaded First-Person Shooter XIII gets redrawn for Switch

Anyone who owned a Nintendo GameCube back in the day (or any of the other multiplatforms) will most likely remember either playing or at least hearing about XIII which is a First-Person-Shooter centered around espinoage, developed by Ubisoft and vaugely based on a famous 1984 Belgian graphic novel series which was penned by Jean Van Hamme with illustrations by William Vance, plus the voice work in the original game for the protagonist was perfomed by David Duchovny (aka Mulder from the X-Files) so here's hoping that they keep it faithful.

Everyone else is probably wondering what on earth this game is but in any case it is now being remade for modern platforms including the Switch and it's being developed by Microids in conjunction with PlayMagic Ltd. Their goal is to bring back the story-focused FPS "missing in today's gaming landscape" with the hope that this will bring this somewhat underrated game to a new generation.

Here's some PR relating to the story and the reveal trailer...

"XIII is a first-person shooter where you play as “Thirteen,” a talented soldier who lost his memory and has been accused of killing the President of the United States. You first wake up injured and amnesic on Brighton Beach with the only clue being a small key and a mysterious tattoo that reads “XIII” next to your clavicle. It’s now your job to search for answers through a 34-level solo campaign. Don’t worry, you will find the appropriate weapon arsenal along the way. So many questions… so many bullets!"

Personally I do have some fond memories of playing XIII, not the single-player campaign but rather the multiplayer which is surprisingly good, my brother owns a copy of the game and completed it back in the day, with this new Switch remake I think I'll finally give it the playtime that it surely deserves.

Do you remember XIII from back in the day? Are you excited for this remake? Is this the first time you've ever heard of the game?
