Charts: Latest Japanese Hardware & Software

The DS again comprises Nintendo's presence in the Top 10 for the week ending June 19th, led by that other "non-game"...

Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan. The sales trends continue to drag, despite the fact that the week saw the first 100,000 debut game in quite a while in Square-Enix's Drag-On Dragoon 2 for PS2.

In Nintendo's corner, the story continues to be the DS and it's apparent unorthodox appeal...its top 4 software titles all belong to the group of "non-games" that Nintendo has aimed to push for with the DS platform. This week saw the initial release of Rakubiki Jiten the internally-published Japanese-English interactive dictionary that ought to prove useful to many aspiring japanese English learners. Here is the link to the japanese commercial for this new dictionary application. Bizarre yet strangely awesome.

Of perhaps even more significant news is the progress of Brain Training, which has defied all expectations and has in fact been inexplicably increasing in sales for the last few weeks. Last yet certainly not least is Nintendogs, continuing to churn along and reel in thousands of new *ahem* "dog-loving suckers" to the DS by the day. Fascinating market experiment this whole line of titles has turned out to be...wonder how it would fly in the West...here are the numbers:

In hardware numbers, again the lil' Dual-Screened Wonder That Could continued a dominance of Japan's attention. With last week's sales, more than a million DS' have now been sold in Japan since the start of this year (in addition to the systems sold last fall/winter.) It likely will not be slowing down quite yet, either...the coming weeks will reflect the release of some intriguing new titles, including Famicom (Advance) Wars, Caduceus (Trauma Center), Goemon and the continued proliferation of non-games with Nintendo's excellent looking new interactive Japanese-English dictionary application (which debuted this week, will be interesting to see if it catches on the way Brain Training has.)

A little surprisingly, and this is the first time I've mentioned this in weeks, but GBA SP sales continue to be pretty solid...wish the same could be said for the ol' GC. Without further ado, here are the numbers:
