The latest Castlevania materializes on the charts in sales figures for the week ending August 28th...
Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.
The week saw the continued prominence of popular Nintendo DS titles sprinkled amidst top selling new PS2 games. The PS2 saw the latest in Namco's Tales series of RPGs and the latest M.S. Gundam Seed Destiny title take the top two spots, but Nintendo handheld favorites retained their popularity. Both Brain Training and Gentle Brain Exercises continued their solid sales alongside the GBA's hit Mushiking. Meanwhile, recent charts champ Jump Super Stars was joined by a new DS release in the Top 10. Konami released the latest in their famous Castlevania series of titles in the cleverly titled Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. The title debuted at 10th while another of Konami's original new DS games, Lost in Blue, failed to crack the top 10 altogether. Castlevania, as beloved a series as it is to gamers worldwide, apparently doesn't sell phenomenally in Japan (figures for the GBA titles are in line with this performance.)
Nevertheless, don't let that keep you from anticipating the game (due in Europe later this month). All sources point to a marvelous new gothic adventure. Below are the figures:
No. | System | Title | Publisher |
---|---|---|---|
1 | PS2 | Tales of Legendia 242,371 | Namco |
2 | PS2 | Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY: Generation of C.E. 118,343 | Bandai |
3 | PS2 | NARUTO: Uzumaki Ninden 33,762 | Bandai |
4 | DS | Brain Training 31,782 | Nintendo |
5 | PS2 | World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 30,060 | Konami |
6 | PS2 | Winning Post 7 28,214 | Koei |
7 | DS | Gentle Brain Exercises 28,031 | Nintendo |
8 | DS | JUMP Super Stars 27,564 | Nintendo |
9 | GBA | The King of Beetle Mushiking: Greatest Champion 15,394 | Sega |
10 | DS | Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow 14,546 | Nintendo |
On the hardware charts, although overall system sales slowed from the previous two weeks, the order remained unchanged. Though the DS did not single-handedly outsell all other platforms combined, it did top combined Sony sales. As the PSP release schedule begins to heat up a bit this month it will be interesting to follow the dance of these two new portable stars on the charts.
