For the week ending August 21, DS sales continued strong...
Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.
Sales for the week, in line with sales in previous years following the Bon Holiday, reflected a far greater concentration in existing titles rather than new software. The only new game to place on the charts was another Naruto themed adventure. Naruto's latest did manage to take the top slot in the week's sales however, dethroning last week's king Jump Superstars in its second week. JSS itself sold through another 57k copies, a respectable figure but certainly dwarfed by its fantastic opening.
On the DS side, JSS was followed by the phenomenally popular Gentle Brain Exercises and Brain Training. Brain Training in particular, after recently falling out of the Top 10 for a couple weeks, is enjoying a genuine resurgence as many new DS adopters look to purchase what has been one of the DS' most unique and stalwart successes thus far. The GC, happily, had its presence staked out for the week in the form of Pokemon XD and Mario Superstar Baseball (making a sudden return to the top 10.) Finally, the GBA saw its recent little wonder Mushiking continue to log healthy sales.

On the hardware side...well, Nintendo DS continued to outsell all other consoles combined. With big releases still looming in the coming months, there is a good chance the dominance of the DS will carry through to the end of the year. Somewhat related, the GBA family is set to recieve a little boost itself in the form of the GB Micro, scheduled to launch in Japan next month.
