Charts: Latest Japanese Hardware & Software Sales

Combined DS sales exceeded 200k during the week ending April 2nd.

Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.

Hardware sales were again dual-screen heavy with the Lite alone outselling all other platforms combined, as its predecessor so frequently did before it. Speaking of the original DS, it handily found its way into the hands of nearly 60k new owners - again, this is strongly indicative of a marketplace where the new Lite proves elusive for many casual consumers who then "settle" for an older model. Lets hope Nintendo has their factories churning out units to sufficiently meet the demand when the sexy portable finally hits the West.

Software sales were led by a pair of new PS2 releases. DS titles meanwhile rang in at half of the top 10. Overall, the top DS performers from last week saw their weekly total again rise as DS hardware continues to click with Japanese consumers. Note that two DS RPGs, Xenosaga 1+2 and Contact, were released on the 30th but failed to place in the top 10 (15th and 28th respectively).
