After taking a week off in celebration of the New Year, the latest Media Create numbers paint another powerful picture of Nintendo's overwhelming successes in Japan. Not only was the weekly Top 10 all populated by Nintendo platform titles, the domination stretched unbroken into the Top 15 as well. At the forefront was the highly anticipated Dragon Quest Monsters Joker, which had debuted the week prior (Media-Create's off week, so to speak) and will likely reach platinum by next week's charts. An offshoot of Japan's most legendary series, Joker no doubt further tantalizes the market with the promise of Dragon Quest IX, likely set for a holiday 2007 release. In all, a bevy of DS titles ranging from chart stalwarts (New Super Mario Bros., Animal Crossing DS and Brain Training 2) and more recent releases (Common Sense Training, Kirby Squeak Squad) were joined by a handful of Wii titles in capturing 24 of the top 30 slots.

Notable software milestones: several DS titles will go quadruple platinum in the next few weeks, following in the footsteps of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. New Super Mario Bros. is (at the time of this writing) likely already there, with Animal Crossing DS and Brain Training 2 a couple weeks behind. Finally, Common Sense Training has itself gone platinum after another strong week of sales.

On the hardware side, the previous week's numbers combined with those reported on these charts place DS Lite sales at over 500k in just two weeks. The figure is likely limited by supply - reports out of Tokyo indicate that eager buyers still need to line up in order to purchase freshly stocked DS Lites from major retail stores. The Wii meanwhile continues to "quietly" continue its strong opening surge, outselling all competing consoles as Nintendo continues to leverage the momentum brought on by waves of worldwide media hype.
