The sales charts return for the week ending October 8...quick recap from last week: the Pokemon dominated.
Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.
The software charts were again dominated by the Pokemon: despite the newest DragonBall Z debuting as the single best selling game of the week, the little monsters combined to sell another 460K units bringing the Japanese total to slightly over 2 million. This makes Pokemon Diamond/Pearl the fastest in the series to the double million mark in Japan, shattering the previous DS record as well. Additionally it will likely best New Super Mario Bros. as the fastest DS title to 3 million.
DS game sales as a whole continue to amaze as a model of stability: notice that 4 of the titles retained their exact same spot on the charts from last week. Also, speaking of steady sales, RPG fans tracking the popularity of Final Fantasy III will be happy to see that the game has continued to sell well and looks to be a lock to go platinum by the end of the year.
Hardware sales followed the trend of recent months (or weeks, if you notice that the PS2 more recently has been outselling its mobile brother, the PSP). While maintaining an overall record-breaking sales pace, DS hardware sales boosts are expected as other big titles approach, such as Winning Eleven DS and Dragon Quest Joker.
