Japan devours DS Lite Black in the week ending September 3rd.
Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.
In a change of pace, the PSP title Tales of Phantasia took the top slot overall last week. The RPG is a remake (another remake, that is) of Namco's debut title in the series that originally came out for the Super Famicom. Aside from this ripple, much of the chart differed very little from the previous two weeks. Amusingly, the Tingle RPG had another solid week of sales alongside recent modest hits Mario Basket 3 on 3 and Rhythm Tengoku. Final Fantasy III continued to sell well, though the question remains how much supply issues for the game are affecting the weekly total. Finally, New Super Mario Bros. indeed bounced over the 3 million-sold milestone - and it doesn't show much sign of losing steam.
In hardware, the DS played dominator yet again - a now familiar development. The week's blowout announcements on Wii pricing and release details has me curious how Japanese interest is affected - the system is "cheaper" in that nation than it will be comparitively in the west (sans a pack-in). Previous poll results suggested that Wii had been gaining mounting interest in recent weeks.
