Japan devours DS Lite Black in the week ending September 3rd.
Courtesy of Media- Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.
Although the latest charts failed to produce DS domination on the order of last week, 8 out of the top 10 (with a ninth, Rhythm Tengoku, on the GBA) isn't too shabby. Though the new Phantasy Star Universe for the PS2 rocketed to the top slot, the rest of the chart was filled with mostly familiar dual-screened faces. New Super Mario Bros. is poised to break 3 million in sales this week, Tingle's Rose Coloured Rupee Land launched solidly and games like DS Cooking Navi continued to feed the tastes of less traditional gamers. Meanwhile, sales of Final Fantasy III plummeted from its gaudy debut last week - but there is more to the numbers than meets the eye. Reports indicate that the game practically sold out within days of its launch with Square-Enix unable to provide additional supply in time to maintain first week sales momentum. Don't be surprised if next week's results show a considerable jump.
DS hardware sales also experienced a healthy leap as the black DS Lite's September 2nd launch proved just as rabidly popular as other DS Lite launches. Famitsu has some graphic depictions of...long lines for DS Lites and such. Peruse.
