Charts: Latest Japanese Software & Hardware Sales

Software sales for the week ending July 16th.

Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.

Software sales for the week saw New Super Mario Bros finally dethroned by the latest iteration in the popular big-headed baseball series Powerful Pro. Meanwhile the detective game Project Hacker (in its second week) leapt into the Top 10 to join familiar DS chart toppers, followed by the third Naruto RPG title for the DS. Of note, DS-based cookbook title, Shaberu! DS Oryouri Navi of the "Touch Generations" line, will be one of next week's biggest titles (with Nintendo having already announced that the title has sold over 100k in its introductory week). Also make note that the PSP saw release of a little title called Loco Roco, the rare PSP title optimal for portability and utter pick-up-and-play friendliness.

On the hardware side DS domination continues unabated (broken record, yes, I know). As reported earlier on this site, worldwide totals on DS hardware sales have already eclipsed 21 million. Granted, that number is skewed somewhat by repeat purchasers who wanted to upgrade to the Lite. Notably, the original DS (or DS Phat as some folks affectionately refer to it) experienced another spike in sales this week. Such occurences won't last much longer as Nintendo of Japan has made it official that production of the original DS will halt completely very soon in favor of the Lite.
