Charts: Latest Japanese Software & Hardware Sales

New Super Mario Bros continues to dominate Japanese sales for the week ending June 18th.

For another week the software charts light up with Nintendo DS software and a handful of PS2 games...but wait! Whats this!? The new PSP title Doko Demo Issho managed to sneak into the top 10 - interestingly, the games in this series have been more offbeat (the term "non-gaming" or whatever) as opposed to the bulk of PSP software (which largely emulate the console experience). Nevertheless, again Mario played the hero, easily outselling everything else in its headlong run towards the 2 million sold milestone (likely to be achieved within the next two weeks).

In hardware, its business as usual for the Nintendo DS Lite: Japanese demand continues to outstrip supply. Nintendo's recent announcement that they will be manufacturing more than 2 million units per month should go a long way toward alleviating the situation...unless European and American demand proves just as voracious. On a side note, sales of the DS Phat (original type, of course) experienced a sudden jump. A hidden windfall of stock? Imported units? Whatever the reason, don't expect such performance to be the norm from here on out - remember that production of the original model is all but utterly phased out.
