Sales for the week ending February 19th see the DS returning to the top once again.

The week saw yet another allocation of DS hardware snapped up by Japanese oblivious to the near release of the redesigned model. Reports indicate that by and large the portable remains difficult to find in stores. The situation will get no easier for folks hoping to score a Lite upon it's release on March 2nd... many stores have cancelled or outright foregone preorders with the expectations of massive demand. Nintendo's supply woes in Japan will likely continue for weeks (though they are not likely complaining about such developments).

The week's console numbers:

Software sales for the week were led by Capcom's new Monster Hunter 2, a series which seems to have solidified its popularity given that even its PSP iteration has sold very well to date (with Monster Hunter Portable being the lone PSP title to demonstrate notable longevity on the sales charts). Otherwise, the week seemed to be "Training as usual" with the popular DS line making another strong showing. It is not (and has not been) all about the "non-games" however: remember that Animal Crossing Wild World (due in Europe next month) and Mario Kart have maintained excellent sales week after week as well. Expect high-profile titles such as Tetris DS to continue the feat.
