Charts: Latest Japanese Software & Hardware Sales

Though Resident Evil 4 PS2 was a headliner, portable Nintendomination was the main theme for sales ending December 4th...

Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.

Another strong week in the Japanese market was led by the PS2 incarnation of Resident Evil 4, which had debuted for Gamecube more than 10 months earlier. The PSP also recieved a popular new title in the form of Monster Hunter Portable. The game has already proven to be one of the PSP's most successful titles. Now that those are out of the way, the rest of the Top 10 was simply packed full of Gameboy and DS releases (with one obligatory new GC Gundam game mixed in). Animal Crossing followed its powerful debut with another strong week and by now has easily leap frogged half-a-million sold with many more copies sure to be hot items this holiday season. Dragon Quest spin-off Slime Mori Mori 2 also debuted to solid sales, hopefully Square-Enix will be moved to localize the charming game for Western fans as well. The final especially noteworthy entry in the charts comes in the form of an old friend of the Top 10. Thats right, Brain Training is back and just in time to possibly see its sequel on the charts alongside it.

Ah, the holidays. In keeping pace with a huge PSP boost in the form of Monster Hunter, the DS was able to comfortably rely on its growing stable of popular titles. Animal Crossing again proved a likely system seller to intrigued Japanese gamers/non-gamers. Despite sales increases for nearly all other platforms (Gamecube and GBA included) the DS again trounced them all combined. Next week should reflect more hardcore gamers jumping on the wagon as Mario Kart DS has just raced into Japan.
