Pokemon XD hits the charts in Japan during the week ending August 7th. Was it enough to take the top spot in sales? Come take a look...
Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.
New software this week really made their mark on the charts. Led by the latest in the World Soccer Winning Eleven series, the new PS2 soccer sim scored over 500k sales. Not even the newly released Pokemon XD, an RPG adventure for the Gamecube, could keep the soccer domination at bay. In fact, the latest Pokemon game finished 3rd overall ranking behind fellow new release Grandia III, the latest game in the esteemed Grandia series of RPGs.
Nevertheless, Pokemon XD still proved that the little monsters maintain their high drawing power in the Land of the Rising Sun by selling over 100k copies. Rounding out the Nintendo platform titles was Gentle Brain Exercises (picking up where Brain Training left off), buggy Mushiking and the new DS version of favorite Konami baseball series Power Pro Pocket Koushien.
Next week's charts, as we all know by now, will reflect the debut of Jump Superstars and it is already known to have pretty much sold out of its first run of 300k+ units. Will its full week numbers beat those of Winning Eleven 9? It has a chance, though a look at the charts will show it would be quite an achievement for a game on such new hardware:
